New York magazine writer Olivia Nuzzi placed on leave after disclosing RFK relationship

New York Magazine has placed Olivia Nuzzi, one of America's most renowned magazine writers, on leave pending a "third-party review." The publication stated that Nuzzi revealed she had been involved in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign while covering the campaign. While the magazine did not name the individual involved, a source with direct knowledge told CNN that the relationship was with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who ran for president as an independent candidate and recently endorsed Donald Trump. The source described the relationship as emotional and digital, not physical.

A spokesperson for Kennedy told CNN, “Mr. Kennedy only met Olivia Nuzzi once for an interview she requested, which resulted in a hit piece.”

The alleged relationship was first reported Thursday night by Oliver Darcy in Status.

In a statement to CNN, Nuzzi acknowledged that her relationship with a reporting subject had “turned personal” and expressed regret for not disclosing it to the magazine.

"Earlier this year, the nature of some communication between myself and a former reporting subject became personal. During that time, I neither reported on the subject nor used them as a source," she explained. "While the relationship was never physical, it should have been disclosed to avoid any appearance of a conflict. I deeply regret not doing so immediately and apologize to those I’ve disappointed, particularly my colleagues at New

 York."
